BICYCLE ROTOR OFFSET TOOL

Final Project: Projects

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

Changing wheels with disc brakes is time consuming and very inefficient. The rotor need to be centered otherwise it will rub against the disc brake. Issues arise when the wheel needs to be changed. This is a major concern during competitions.

Our goal was to develop a tool that could be used to measure the proper wheel displacement in the disc brake. This tool would also be able to decrease the time needed to realign the disc brakes within the calipers.

For competition purposes, it will ensure that the spare wheels can be prepared prior to the riding event.

HOW IT WORKS

The Bicycle Rotor Offset Tool will allow the user to measure the displacement from the rotor to the outer face of the quick release cap in the direction normal to the rotor face. The design will have two DOF, making this compatible to any disk size. This device will then lock in place so that the measurement will not be altered.

The locking mechanism will feasibly allow the user to have perfect accuracy. They will no longer need to center the disc brakes using the traditional, time-consuming method.
